Unbalanced enemies

Post by Frusta »

Hello there, I want first of all to thank everybody for this beautiful mod!
That being said, I am level 22 finishing the caves, and I noticed something about balance issues within enemies.

Some enemies don't do damage at all, like the "butcher" type monster, they still have a fair amount of high hp but don't hit at all...
Goat archer hits more than those for example, and they run away as fast as you, shoot faster, attack at range... What is the idea behind this? If someone is faster and attacks from afar, shouldn't it do less damage?

Also those new monster that look like demon skeletons, they hit about 10 times more than any other enemy. I have the same resistance to lightning and cold (23% I believe), and I met the same tier of those enemies along with the big lightning caster demon-like: those lightning ones do me little harm (which makes sense since they shoot fast and I have some resistance) whereas those skeleton demons simple mobs hit me for like 1/6 of my hp and the boss possibly one-shot my with their melee combo. I am a barbarian with 250 hp, using sword and shield and valors armour. I mean, what the hell? :D

I think you need a basic review of damages of the various monsters, because it does not make much sense from a experienced video game and dungeon master point of view. I know sometimes we create a new monster and we want It to shine, but this is unbalanced in a 5 times to 1 ratio. I would be curious to see the math behind those enemies. Those skeletons definitely need an adjustment, as I would also re-balance the ranged enemies to do less damage than the ones attacking in melee.

That being said, another big thank you for the beautiful mod and fun you brought me! It is really amazing to see diablo 1 run on win 10 with extra content!

Hello and welcome to the forum! :D

Overlord types i think you wanted to say have high hp and decent dmg, not fast, so a sponge basically, what you'd think when you look at them.

Goatmen archers, like all ranged characters have higher dmg so you'd go for them 1st, that's the idea behind the design, their AI has the flee mechanic but it's manageable by any class with one of their skills or just Telehit mechanic. And they're easily put into hit recovery, unless you lack the dmg, and you might since you use a sword.

The Winged Demons have a double attack, because they have the dual attack animation, and they leach life (i think some leach mana too) but they are frail and also easily put into hit recovery, and their AI walks in what should i call it, a zig-zag lets say and don't always use their ranged attack.

Also your resistances are non existent basically, you have 11% just innately cause the Barbarian gains elemental resist through leveling, so try until you get to Diablo to be closer to 75% to mitigate most dmg and later in endgame as close to 95% as possible, and you should really use an Axe with the Barbarian, the Attack Time is much better and overall dmg as well, plus with x Frenzy stacks you can keep enemies stunlocked easily.
