New to game, won't save

Hey everyone,
I made two characters so far and neither have shown up after I close the game. My video settings won't save either. Any ideas?

I've heard that if you install games in Program Files it has problems with accessibility. Try moving the mod's files and the diabdat.mpq to anywhere else.

Just move the game to my documents for example?

Yeah, or wherever, just not Program Files, cause win won't let you edit anything in there, and maybe that's why nothing is saved.

Is the only difference between this and the other mod single player vs multi player?

The Tchernbog build has no mana cost for all the fighter character's skills, no quests yet, some areas are not accessible, barbarian has a skill changed (whirlwind), and maybe there something else that i'm forgetting now.
