I think I screwed up big time.

Post by balthazar »

Guess I was too slow, but now Diablo has all the buffs in the world.
Behemoth, Haste, Vampiric.

I'm playing a sorcerer level 35 on Nightmare difficulty..
Diablo kills me almost instantly.
I dps maybe 1/10th of his life before dying.

Is there any tips on beating him when he has all these buffs on him?
or should I just delete character and try to be faster next time?

Any help is appreciated. :)

I'm sorry to tell you, but yes man, the only way in your situation is to delete your character.

Though, when you start a new character and want to kill diablo, it might happen that after about an hour of fighting in his level, diablo would become extra strong again... Bad news. The only chance in this case is to delete the game and reinstall it.

But, to be sure that nothing like this happens, best would be to reinstall windows. By this way you make sure that the old character file was completely deleted and doesn't affect your new game. That would give you a totally new chance against Diablo!

Cheers

Amm, no, no need to delete. The Map of the Stars timer starts when you enter Terror's Domain, and you have 1h to beat Diablo before he reaches full power, every time you start the game he is reset to regular mode, so on each game that character starts just try to clear the level faster and beat him in less than 1h. As a tip you can skip clearing the South room where he spawn, because after you defeated his generals and enter that room and he appears he will destroy all monsters in that room, but monsters there won't drop anything on death and no xp in given to you from his kills.

@andronnik Nice one, i would have went further with the troll and recommended to get a new PC as well.

Can't and shouldn't. The bulk of the mod is the full blown tension when fighting something that is really hard you'll most likely die from, especially Hell and Torment is a real pain without proper gear. The death and full regen of level is enough of a death punishment, so i think it's ok that a "fresh try at it" (full monster regen on lvl) compensates for no hardcore mode. No offense but D3 can't be compared, Condore/(later) Blizzard North made D1 and D2+expansion (and another unfinished and unrelesed D3 different than what we got now, before Blizzard North was dissolved), so this current D3 it's something else entirely, from none of the D1 & D2+expansion team, it's more fantasy adventure the gothic horror as previous titles, so hardcore is light imo. Anyway, in this mod Torment has door and chest traps that deal 500-1000 dmg, and they are totally cheap deaths imo, so there would be a lot of rage over this ones, but then again you'll learn where to position yourself to not take dmg from traps and just click stuff with Telekinesis spell.

Anyway, don't mind me, as far as i can tell D1 HD is dead, what we have now is all that is and we can and have to deal with it.

No one can push it forward, that's the reality. Look at other D1 mods and figure it out, BrightLord was an alien for what he did, what he couldn't do no one else will, so let's be thankful for what we have and just enjoy, there is enough variety, replayability, randomness, etc to be worth revisiting this mod just as is now sometime in the future, even without something new coming. Sure one can harbor hope, but i think it's not something that should be done, false hope brings disappointment.

@DacianDraco

I fully agree to you. I am totally grateful to BrightLord for what he dd, he did indeed an impossible job with this mod. I still have some of his codes, for example the stats of all the unique items - not only is it difficult to understand because it is so much copy/paste data, it is also immense on how complex his calculations are, all the stats with different approach on different items and much more.

I guess you are right that if he didn't manage to do more, no one else will. But we all enjoy the job done so far, and as for SinglePlayer - it is almost perfect ;)
