How to upteir items? Crafting

Post by Tape Dog »

What I am referring to is taking rare, unique, or set items, and upgrading them from normal to the nightmare version, or the nightmare version to the Hell version, and so on.

I have read this is possible but so far have had not luck. I downloaded the bezelbub documentation which is a few topics down on this page, but the upteiring recipes listed there have so far not worked for me, I have tried to upteir a rare flail and a unique bow using my highest level character, a 37 sorc, which according to the documentation should be a high enough level to complete the recipe. What gives? Yes I have checked and recheck the recipes.

So my main two questions about uptiering:

1) Where can I find a list of recipes? the downloadable bezelbub only has a few uptiering recipes, and they do not work for me.

2) When uptiering, what option do I select on the anvil? There is no option to uptier, just to combine gems, or make one of the recipes which I have found, Does it not matter which of these I choose to get to the crafting screen, or is this part of the problem?

There are only 2 tiers of items, and each item quality has 2 recipes you must find and learn, for armors and weapons. So find the recipes first (the required level listed in the docs is for being able to learn them), then select them from anvil list (upgrade magic/rare/etc should be just below gem upgrades) and put in the materials and a tier 1 item. It will upgrade only the base stats (AC, dmg, attribute requirements, and sometimes the required level too depending on affixes), anyway it's still good because some items become better.

Also for swords i believe there is a bug, if not intended:
SCIMITAR ---> CUTLAS (instead of RAPIER)
SABRE ---> RAPIER (instead of CUTLAS)
LONG SWORD ---> ESPADON (instead of BATTLE SWORD)
CLAYMORE ---> BATTLE SWORD (instead of ESPADON)

Ok thanks for the explanation, I guess I was assuming it worked more like it did in Diablo 2. Assuming and hoping... i miss my horodric cube a little bit and the unguided feel of crafting with it, the lack of in game recipe lists gave it more of a sense of mystery or something.
I will still play around with this though.... once I find some upgrade recipes.

When you find the various upgrade Rare/Set/Unique crafting scrolls it becomes a game changer until you reach Torment, then all but the most powerful sets and uniques are useful.

I love this mod finding all the colored name items that i find is like candy for the brain now that my sorc can do hell mf runs and actually find the good stuff.

I have one more question, however i do not think it warrents a new topic. I sometimes find sorc sets and uniques with mana or life steal. Does this work with spells like lightning and fireball? I would assume not like d2, however i wonder why its often found on sorc items if thats the case

As far as i can tell no, also the (element) hit dmg affix doesn't seem to add with the physical dmg when calculating leech for the fighter characters, so i believe only physical dmg does. Maybe Meteor Cluster and Apocalypse leech since they have a physical dmg component, but i doubt it, even if it did the physical dmg is so small it doesn't make a noticeable difference.

And i wouldn't say it's often found on sorc items, it's found on 2 sets that use staves and on 1 uniq staff, and it's not like any other character class can't use these, or any sets and uniq items. Spells are not exclusive to the Sorcerer/Necromancer classes, it's just that these 2 make use of them most.

Mana and Life leach does not accrue with Fireball, Apocalypse, Guardian, or Meteor Swarm physical damage.
