Brutallus....

Post by Alzakiel »

Hello im new around there and on Belzebub!

I wanted some nostalgia and to replay this game with a lot of new thing to explore and do.... So i ended up in hell, im now level 24 necromancer with gears looking like this.

-Isenhart's horns
-Isenhart's Parry
-Griswold's edge/*secondary*The level 1 healing staff (Free healing xP)
-Sparkling Mail
-Maiden's broach
-2x ring of truth

-STR:60/85
-INT:90/112
-DEX:24/47
-VIT:60/75

And i just encountered him while doing the quest to destroy shadowfang ... brutallus and hell i don't know how i'll manage to kill him, i have 102 Armor Class, 75% fire resist and everything else at 40% and he still hitting me like a truck... Tryed lightning = Nope, Fire spell = Nope ... Ice spell = Yesss sir! But then i end up only hitting him for like 20-25 damage with each frostshard while trying to keep my skeleton up and running which ain't doing any good since there is a 5 seconds CD on the skill to raise them....

I'd really need some tips to deal with him because even though it seem to be working best has long i raise skeleton... He alway end up dealing with them faster than i can keep them up while dealing damage :S (And i can't find a damn teleport book which would make this fight a lots easyier lol)

i'll be glad for any tips xDDD! After dying 15 times in a row(And i hadn't died once up to now :'( )... im done for now i was just gonna throw my keyboard through the window lol

Otherwise it's an awesome mod :D never did think it was that good :)

Yeah, Brutallus can be pretty tough. Luckily, he's actually entirely avoidably, if you want. You can skip his section of the River of Flame, entirely. I can't offer much in the way of advice, he hit me like a truck as much as he hit you. On the two times I've fought him, I've kited him around the lava pools in his room while hitting him with either Lightning (my Assassin) or Guided Arrow (my Rogue) while drinking Full Rejuvenation potions whenever he lands a lucky hit.

As always, it seems like pretty standard advice that if you're stuck, you probably just need more gear that gives bonus HP or maxes out your resistances. Were you putting a lot of your stat points into Intelligence? Because I've seen a lot of people suggest that all Vitality is the way to go, as the Necromancer's final class skill not only gives him an HP buff, but turns all spells into blood magic, which makes them cost HP instead of MP, anyway.

Yeah i guess i could skip it, it's rare i skip a monster i didnt kill at least once but oh well lol.... Im not so good at kiting on D1 hence why i'd really like to find a teleport book lol

Gear wise that's the best i found up to now.... Not a dang thing better than ring of truth and everything else lol (Quite the reason why i stack a good amount of Armor Class) and for resistance still trying to find anything better to cap it...

Yeah i did put a whole loads of point into Intelligence since i wanted to raise my spell has high i could right away so my vitality is at 60 basic and 75 buffed with a total of 173HP... i don't have yet the last necromancer skill so i think i would have had quite a hard time going through the game with only vitality lol (But i am working on it atm)

PS: I don't survive more than 2-4 hits lol

I presume you are around clvl 24 and have 6 skeletons, so have them all up and the Golem too, and just wait and focus only on resummoning skeletons as they die, you don't have to hit him yourself (unless you have a spell on LMB to cast once, then cast Raise Skeleton on RMB once and keep this sequence). Also the cooldown on skeletons is 1 sec, so you won't have a problem keeping most of them up, it might take some time for them to finish him off but it's safe. And put all in VIT from now, minions get better with difficulty and they're your main dmg dealers, spells are secondary. Only when you'll feel your summons are tanky enough start putting some points into MAG for spells.

Skeleton have a 1 sec CD ? Well idk about that everytime i cast it i see a 5.0sec appearing :/... I'll try it that way and see.

And yup that's the plan from now on all in vit. My spell levels is more than enough for normal difficulty now. Had increase my strenght since i wanted to be able to wear better armor, main reason why my armor class is at 102 :')

Can we find more golem book btw ? I got my golem in the arcane sanctum but it doesnt feel like i can find it anywhere else up to now?

You can for sure find Golem books, they're a semi-common find for my Assassin and Rogue, and they aren't much higher in level than your Necromancer :D Adria sells them, you can farm her by checking her, quitting the game, and checking her, again. Or, you can just walk up to the Catacombs shortcut, enter that, exit back to town, and check her refreshed inventory. She also starts selling Teleport books around level 25-28, I've noticed, but I've found that they're more rare than Golem and Guardian books.

As well, the Lost Treasure quest, which takes you to Diablo's old Soulstone Chamber, has several unique spellcasters who are rather easy to fight and are guarding several bookcases. If you'd rather get some EXP than spend gold, and don't mind doing the run/getting books besides Golem, then that might be worth your time.

Indeed made lost treasure and it paid quite well (It is where i dropped my Isenhart's helm :P) and there was a good amount of book to be found indeed.

Thanks for the info about teleport book :) i'll keep a watch on adria shop here and then!

For now i finally destroyed this shadowfang blade and killed brutallus... I don't know after a good night of sleep he was much easyier :')

Glad to hear you got over him. Also check the Skill Sheet and see the Cooldown of Raise Skeleton, it's 1 sec, when you cast it goes from 0.9 to 0 rapidly. And as you'll get towards max level you'll have up to 20 skeletons + other minions, so don't focus on STR too much, gear with +All Attributes will cover most of what you need to wear stuff. And with so many minions you'll be excessively shielded. Better focus on getting those resistances up, at least for Diablo fight you'll need them as close to max for an easier time, i'd start with replacing those rings, they're the worst for sure.

If i can find decent ring i will ... Otherwise i'll stick to them since their nice, easy to get and still keep me alive even when im that near my fight with diablo lol .... Replaced that mace with Azurewrath which is just simply awesome and hell izual is a bitch but kited him with skeleton spamming fireball and everything was fine. (Yesss... Sword + Shield all the way, i never been fan of staffs on D1 and alway see them has a support weapon lol)

Honestly i'd say im one of these guys with the worst luck ever possible ... Even on D3 which is easy has fuck i can't even seem to obtain set i need or item like the starmetal kukri for my witch doctor xD

So don't ask too much from me on any Diablo game gear wise xD (Well outside D2 which is all about runes farming lol... It's kinda making the game that much easyier early on)

But for sure i have a few thing i must work on ... Ain't too sure about what gear requirement will be looking like in hell/torment .. im pretty much going in blind since i don't like to spoil myself too much if my necromancer is screwed so be it, i'll restart another caracter then and for now im just having a blast with this mod

Easiest and fastest way to obtain gear is to do chest runs in the Lost Treasure quest. They are guaranteed to drop several magic items, very often rares. And you don't have to fight anyone, just teleport to the room and loot the chests.

I know it's not very fun to do, but many people do it. It's similar to Laz runs in vanilla.

I believe sergius the heretic must have some nice drop rate since he dropped 2 set parts when i killed him ? (It's not like it take that much time to clear all of them anyway)

I gotta check that. Thing is, some bosses only drop nice things once, after that they never drop anything worthwhile.

I know for certain that Risen Hero always drops several magic items, often rares or uniques. The Butcher, however, does not. No idea about Sergius.

edit: yeah, he actually does drop stuff even after you've done the quest. Just like Lazarus or Diablo.

Between i didnt ask about it... Does every unique enemy have the same drop pool depending on which difficulty you are playing in ? (Well at least for those that still can drop goodies after you have completed their quest once like Risen hero and lazarus)
