A few questions from a beginner

Post by HAL9000 »

I've been a huge fan of Diablo for years and was really excited when I found out about this HD mod. I downloaded it and have been playing it for a couple hours and I have a few questions about the mod.

1. Once I exit out of the game, the map randomizes again when I play it again even if I've gone through an entire level. The character advancement is saved and I still have the items I picked up. Is this supposed to happen?

2. What is the Dark Pact spell? I can't seem to find any explanation of the spell on any website or in-game.

3. Why is Wirt's speech jumbled up when he talks about the Butcher?

4. The only way the game saves is if I run it as Administrator, is there a setting I can change that will stop me from having to do that? It's not a big deal, I'm more afraid of forgetting to do it and then losing the progress I made.

1. Yes, this is supposed to happen. It is a feature, that was only present in multiplayer in diablo 1 and it was a general feature in diablo 2.

2. You can read it under the spell description. That spell gives you mana at the cost of some life.

3. It is a speech from a quest, which blizzard hadn't implemented in the final release of diablo: "The Butcher's chamber". It's a little riddle :)

4. Mmmmhh I run the game under windows 7, not under administrator and it works normal.

If the game doesnt run with enought priviledges, it should store its data in the user virtualstore. There should be some kind of check in the game to make sure the files doesnt fail to save

I think its a matter of where ever the files are stored on his drive. If he put it in program files, that's the problem right there.

I personally run it straight from the desktop in a folder and call that good enough.
