Fountain of Tears - Question

Post by SkyrosX2 »

Hi all,

I'm trying to get my Rogue's Golem to level 11 so I can have it maxed out.

I read in a few posts that the FoT (Fountain of Tears) swaps one base stat with another for a limited time.
But this is what it looked like when I had the FoT on, and when I had it off:

So, basically, my Str remained the same.
My Magic went up by 1, from 471 to 472.
My Dex went down by 51 (which is my clvl), from 404 to 353.
My Vit went down by 29, from 149 to 120.
(And my LIGHTING RESISTANCE went down by 46%, from 32% to -14%??? Wtf???)

So, what's going on here? How does Fountain of Tears actually work?!?!

One more question: I'm searching for Eerie Shrine in Nightmare dlvl 1 to 4. Easy mobs, right size map.
Is there any place better to look for an Eerie Shrine? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!!!

Ok, I figured it out; it is a strange bug that I had not seen before, but this is what happened:

I found another FoT and took the screenshots again to check the changes.
For some odd reason, the helmet stopped working, it was as if I did not meet the requirements to wear it (but I did!). So, basically, it was there, with colors as if it was working, but my stats were as if it was suppose to be red (as if I had it on, but without meeting the requirements).
So, simply by clicking around trying to figure out stuff, I took a ring off and put it back on again. When I took it off, the helmet became red; when I put it back on the helmet became coloured, and my stats went up as normal from the helmet.
That's why the stats were oddly changed with FoT and the lightning resistance also changed.

I had never seen a bug where an item is NOT RED but it is as if you were not wearing it. lol We learn something new every day in this mod. =D

I could still use suggestions about the Eerie Shrine, though. I'm finding dozens of shrines, just never Eerie =(

Horazon's Sanctum is probably your best place for farming shrines. The "least goodest" layout, if you're looking for shrines, has only three or four but the "bestest" layout has seven or eight. There's a near-guaranteed Fountain of Tears too, near the stairs in the Starry Field.
Actually come to think of it does anybody know what happens when you drink from a Mag+ shrine while still under the effect of a Mag+ shrine? I know there's been a bunch of times I've been in the Sanctum and I've found multiple of those Reset cauldrons ("what once was open now is closed") which creates an infinite loop, since each of them resets the other. If there's a Mag+ shrine too and that cauldron's effects stack too it seems like you could jank the system hard in the Starry Field by going Mag+ > Reset > Mag+ > Other Reset > Mag+ >Reset repeat as necessary (based on your acumen with the teleport clicks and the cauldrons' proximity within the time limit imposed by the Mag+ shrine). Even if the Mag+ cauldrons don't stack I'm more sure the Fountain of Tears do so with you might be able to jank it there too.

Even if none of those work and you're still farming for Eerie shrines don't forget the four cauldrons in Horazon's chamber where you face Grimspike, those tend to be of the better types like Eerie.

Horazon's Sanctum it is, then! =D Thanks, Wendigo!

The +Mag shrines (or any attribute shrines) do not stack; the timer is renewd, and that's it.
Yes, shrines and FoT do stack.

I like the Reset Shrine (THAUMATURGIC) with a FoT in the area because it gives you one more chance of having the FoT pumping the attribute that you are looking for! =)

I'm trying to get my Rogue's Golem to level 11 so I can have it maxed out.
Dont you mean lvl 13 or so? I just checked my rogue and Golem is at lvl 12, lvl 18 when using the staff. I didnt totally optimize for Golem, and find that he does not survive long enough to be useful on anything above player level 4 in torment.

Or do you mean get your Golem to lvl 11 and then do all 4 of the quests for lvl ups? Making him lvl 15 before the staff?

Maybe someone more knowledgeable should chime in to add more info...

Anyways, I rolled another rogue and am dumping every point into magic, the plan is to hit lvl 60, get the shrines and buffs and gear to fully max out Golem and then grind for the points reset.

@NegPulse

I mean get Golem to level 11 by reading books (requires 492 magic) and then complete the Horazon Sanctum quest in each difficulty to have it on level 15. I managed to do this today! =)
With my Rod of Onan it gets 15+7=22 level.
My goal now is to try and find a ring "Symbol of Rathma" to get 5 more levels to it.

This is my first Rogue; but it is my 3rd char, so I had items to support her growing up quick. I have all points in Dextery.
I think you are up to a hell of a mission... all points in magic is gonna get you really low DPS, which will make getting to level 60 a hell of a grind.

Why don't you just do like me (and many others from what I've seen in the forum), put all in Dextery, get 492 Magic with items, and then the 4 levels from the quest? This way you don't have to play a weak Rogue all the way up to level 60 in order to max out the Golem, only to put the points back into Dextery anyway.

Nice work on the lvl 22 Golem, how do you find he holds up on the different $plvl's?

My all magic rogue is 33 now and only on nightmare, but I have run most of everything at $plvl 10 so the lvl's come easy. I'm sure it will slow down a hell of allot. But my first rogue which I messed up all the stats and stuff is lvl 53 without much trying at all, I have only cleared torment terror domain a few times, the xp seems to flow at a smooth pace if you can kill at a half decent rate.

On Hell difficulty dlvl 16+Terror Domain: At MP0 (Monster Power0) he holds up easily.
At MP2 I can kill as fast as I do in MP0, so that's what I usually run, and he still holds up fine.
At MP5 he dies quiet more often, and I have to be carefull with a couple different monster (charging knights and Freezing Mages), but he still does ok, you just have to summon him more often and teleport more often as well.
I haven't tried beyond MP5.

On Torment difficulty dlvl 14 to 16: He holds up good up to MP3 (better than in Hell difficulty). I haven't tried beyond MP3 for two reasons; first, killing becomes slow, I need to improve DPS in my Rogue. Second, because I'm currently having AWFUL ISSUES, as I describe in this thread:
