Sorc stuck at hell terrors domain

Post by Smorceror »

I am lvl 41 atm and I can´t see how I´m going to be able to complete terrors domain on hell difficulty. Too many mobs that are immune to everything, I even have a blue staff in offswitch with 27 spellpower and -15 lightning res but advocates and some others are still immune.

How do I get past this bottleneck? As far as I understand it´s possible to get higher lvl -resistance later on. Should I farm for some specific items atm?

If i remember correctly you need 20% or maybe a bit more - lightning resistance on staff + whatever your Elemental Drain has. And while waiting for Elemental Drain's cooldown you can just Teleport forward so you agro as many as you can on you and then die, when you come back they are now lots ganged up on your previous body and since Chain Lightning shoots bolts according to targets more bolts will go in the same direction, aiming also at targets behind the 1st ones, dealing more dmg to all.

Stafs with only -light resist won't always help you since Hell difficulty. Many mobs or bosses are immune to lightning, but are instead very vulnerable to cold for example, so Blizzard spell is very effective, or meteorite cluster if they aren't fire immune. Bone Spirit is also an essential skill in sorcerers inventory!

And of course, like DacianDraco said, use your Elemental Drain as often as possible. If you don't have any stafs with bonuses other then -light resist, then you should indeed farm a bit.

Happy farming!

Yeah i'm having the same problem..
Not giving up yet though

Say is there a way to bind more spells to a button than just F5-8 and the limited selection on F1-4?

I have more usefull spells than i have buttons to assign :?

Also, why are people saying to use Chain Lightning? Regular Lightning does so much more damage?

Yeah i too feel F1-F8 is not enough keys to bind skill/spells, but anyway i've learned to use the skill bar to manually select most situational ones like Town Portal, Telekinesis, etc and just have the ones i need to switch fast in combat at F1-F8.

As for Lightning it shoots just one lets call it "ray" while Chain Lightning shoots many more rays that auto target, and as i've said in my post above on higher difficulty where monsters density is higher and for ex 3 enemies are situated one behind the other on 3 rows and are running towards you, with one Chain Lightning cast you will shoot 3 rays and all 3 rays will hit all 3 targets (since they are in a row), dealing more dmg to all.

Yeah i can see where you are coming from, will try it out :)

My normal lightning is max 750 dam (lvl19), while my chain light is max 188dam (lvl15)

Do you have any farming suggestions by chance?
Need to improve my gear if i want to progress any further.

Thanks for the reply mate!

Lightning type dmg in general is a weird dmg, not only for spells but as a modifier on weapons as well, since it varies so much from very low (x dmg) to high (xxx dmg) so in reality it may not do as much dmg as it displays. Anyway it's best if you try using Chain Lightning with any character in the Infested Cellar or Secret Tunnel levels where those walls crumble and Vipers appear (they are not immune to Lightning on all difficulties if i remember correctly), and they will all die fast (still immediately move away cause they may shoot poison before they die), it helps my above argument cause they are cramped up, you are close to them when casting and rays do dmg for each square from the length of the the ray that passes them.

In general Terror's Domain has best drops for that difficulty, but if you are not comfortable with farming there yet i'll list some others that i find good to farm in backwards order: Lazarus, the chests at the end of the Secret Tunnel, the chests from Horazon's Sanctum near the telepad back to the level start, the chests in the rooms activated with skull levers form the Bone Chamber.

I have been farming the chests in the secret tunnel for a while now but they only spawn low lvlish gear even with putting the "$player 10"..(hell difficulty)

It's just RNGesus, also try having more magic find on switch for when you open the chests, like Fortitude Shields and Barnar's Star or Oculus. But try to stay a bit below 200 magic find, cause from what i noticed with higher numbers more magic quality items appear then anything else.

Yeah i did the runs with all MF gear on i had 190 total so just about perfect i guess, did find some more yellows but the item level remained low :S
Since i'm a sorc i can just teleport to the chests without fighting :D

Also been slowly farming Izual, item level is higher there but it takes quite a while to do the run..

Btw does it work if you while fighting a champion/rare/boss go from "$player 0" to "$player 10" to get better loot?
I tend to change it just before he dies..

No i don't think it does anything if you change it like you say, $player option is read and monsters receive corresponding stats when you enter a dungeon level.

Yes if u type "$player 10" they will drop better gear.
Your MF shouldnt exceed above 300 i tested myself chests in the secret tunnel i was always get cool items like grim helm+dragon shield etc... after i exceed my MF over 300 it was only drops crappy items (Torment Diffuculty).
Btw i have a question yesterday when i play sorc about +60MF on nightmare diffuculy with "player10" dragon shield dropped i thought it was only for hell and torment diffucult is that a bug or something else im not quite sure.

Yeah i think you're right Dacian

So going in and out of a dlvl with say a portal for example will work with the $player X command, Dacian?

Well, i checked now and the hp of a regular monster changes actively when you type the command. You can do this as well, if a monster is stuck behind a fence in caves for ex, type the command and the hp will change. So after all it might work to get better drops just as you said you do, as the monster is about to be killed.

It's kind of odd because sometimes when you do it the HP does not actively change and other times it seems to work
:?: :?: :?:

What's the best way to defeat those pesky blood knights as a sorc?

Are the best recipes for a sorc called the "Spellweavers"?
Also what is the best thing you can spend your gold on?

Thanks in advance!
