Completely new set items appearance

As I understand the set being in the past an equipment in the possession of a hero (let's say hm .. Aldur), this hero (Aldur, because who else) was killed somewhere in the underground during his heroic expedition, and his clothes were strewn by the monsters who killed him (perhaps even one from decapitated bodies we find on our way in the underground is just his body). But before this tragedy happened, Aldur as indeed each of the heroes had to obtain somewhere the armor, mace or helmet. He, I am sure of it, went to a blacksmith and ask him for made the necessary things. But this blacksmith in the meantime also worked on contract for a certain Hwanin. As it turned out, Aldur and Hwanin ordered from the blacksmith the helmet and armor among others, but noone from them didn't leave any guidance of how these helmets and armors should look like. So blacksmith made a request - helmets and armors - on the design of those, beating records of popularity among the other heroes in those times, and engraved on them a name of a buyer so, on one armor and helmet were the words Aldur and on the others Hwanin (probably the truth was very different and more simple, and blacksmith signed helmets and armors just to get himself not to get lost in the orders and not send unsuitable items to inadequate customer .

It's my loose interpretation of the situation with set items. All are almost identical. I was thinking about that while drinking beer and accidentally my eyes fell on my easel standing in the corner of the room and the sudden thought flashed through my mind - maybe, however, I could help create something that would give me pleasure and caused pleasure during the development. Incidentally, I paint and sketch for many years. But to the point, I thought I could design a completely new appearance of the sets, however, maintained in the style and atmosphere of the original appearance of objects created by graphic designers from Blizzard. Don't worry, I don't intend to create a fancy shit that will not fit into anything, and if it is, with finesse equal to that with which fist fits into the eye. And here comes the question for you current and future players, whether such interference and the concept has any sense, and if the idea is in general raison d'être. To this end, I decided to create this topic as well as a poll so you can express what you think about it. For now this is only a loose idea, but if the response would be positive, in my free time I'll design one of the sets completely to the test. I give voice and decision in your hands.

Jesus christ, that wall of text was painfull to read...

Two things to note:

1: As mentioned, try to write posts short and to the point. Verbosity really doesn't help other forum users communicating with You. And bloging about your personal life here doesn't really help either.

2: Designing items visuals for Diablo isn't really hard. The problem lies in the fact that after designing you would have to make character in-game sprites, including animations with all weapons, casting, getting hit, et cetera. That is a lot of tedious work.

1: I'm not talkative at all, quite the opposite. Of course, I could write something like "I want to change the look of sets to another. What do you think? '. But in this case, no one would understand why I have such a plan and how it would look. So I preferred to explain everything thoroughly (but in a playful tone) to avoid misunderstandings and unnecessary questions later. I think that in the context of this forum or work menshioned, my private live or the role I play in Earthly society should be irrelevant for the people who come here and read my posts. I was not going to brag about anything, because I do not have. I just wanted to point out that I could do this and I supported this with evidence to not to be groundless.

2: At the beginning I want to design images of items. If this works and people will like them, I will try to add animations for the images. For now I don't have access to the software or/and don't have the required knowledge (yet) to change the appearance of the character dressed in a particular set. But maybe with some help... Who knows.

when everything else - like multiplayer and balancing - has been done i would appreciate new skins for the items.

but for now i have to say no, because i think the programmers should spend their time on more important features/things.

Work on this would last independently of other works (for multiplayer mode, balancing the game and a whole bunch of other things) and their effects would be placed only in the multiplayer version, not before. And that's still at least half a year.

@SlapZ: I'm a, like youth say, 'tl;dr' guy but Corvus's post was fun and entertaining. Not only because he made a story but he made a story to justify his thinking on particular game feature.

@Corvus: I think that priority on 'art' work in this mod would be characters and animations for asassin and necro (maybe even barb... and still for 3 basic armortypes) than sets. Even change of colours, like it's now is quite enough to see and feel that you have a special item. So like i said... If you can do chars with animations, go for it. Set items aren't so badly needed.

rotfl, it was just a joke nothing more, but let me quote You once again
he made a story to justify his thinking
 hahahahaha I'm so narcissistic.

First, I'll do sketches for the necromancer in three versions type of armor.

I think Brightlord has WAY bigger fish to fry than to spend time on something like this, even if he wanted to do it. Since its a hobby project that he's doing for free then I think the decision would like solely with him anyways, regardless of what any poll says. Some new models/animations would be cool but thats a huge time investment for something purely cosmetic.

I also think if he were to invest the time into making new models/animations then it would be better spent trying to properly implement the dual wielding system with sprites and animations like the other mod has. :)

Hmm I would say the way dualwielding system is implemented in other mods is just bad looking gimmick. Thats why it's not implemented here graphically. (There are offhand weapons but rare). It doesn't make sense when hero swings both weapons at same time and offhand barely moves.

To do it right you need animation with sequence of attacks with both weapons one after eachother. This already happen if your hero transforms into storm demon or undead balrog in this mod.

I think it does not look as bad as the hero wields two weapons, and has always been seen that uses two weapons even as walks
As for sets and uniques are too many items on the almost identical appearance but that is the little things that can be some work at the end of

I think before having us to vote you should post an piece or two of selfmade icons so we know you know how to imitate the Diablo 1 style. Im not going to vote untill i see some sample.
