Sorcerer Stuck in Hell

Anyone have tips for hell or greater using the sorcerer?

I just can't progress past hell, there are a ton of immunes. I mean the obvious answer is to switch spells when they show up but cold and fire spells just do not ever do enough damage. Especially in the case of champion monsters. Chain lighting is great when i find a non light immune but aside from that i'm stuck. Been running hell for a while by creating a new game and getting a roll of monsters so there are no light immunes but still i can't see any items being able to fix my problem. The cool down on the reduce immune spell is pretty long so it doesn't exactly work in most cases.

I'm basically looking for advice from anyone with a high level sorc. Mine is at 47 and my gear seems to be fine. I'm all for having the game as hard as possible but like i said, i could see myself nearing level 55 and still having this problem.

Hi! I am sorcerer clvl 44.i have to ask you, what weapon do you use? For me a crucial change in my hell- gameplay was the switch from sword+shield to staffs. You need staffs with lightning - resistance - reduction, the same for fire/magic ( cold is not so important).so better have 2 staffs and switch between them. Of course +spellpower/+spell level/ + cwsting speed is important too, but in second place. Crucial spells are TP, stone curse when possible, chain lightning, light/fire wall, fireball, apocalipse and bone spirit (especially for bosses) Yesterday I tried diablo-lvl on hell for the first time, and I almost killed diablo having about 10-15% reductions on my staffs. Hope this could help. Cheers

When do you start getting staves that have the resistance reduction bonuses? I am still pretty new with the character. Also I've got another quick question about the staves. Will the spell the staff casts be at the level of the spell that you have, or is it a pre-set level?

I think I started getting them on Hell-difficulty. As far as i noticed, the spell-lvl of the staff is the same as the spell-lvl of your char spell.

A nice way to find some staffs is farming the hell lost treasure quest chests. TP to end, pop the chests, repeat. Use the crazy amount of gold to either buy staffs from gheed or buy random items from gheed and salvage them to make a staff (even normal cheap items from him like short swords can produce flawless/perf gems depending on your level. I don't know why, but it has been this way for me). I find that blowing up the last set of barrels, and walking (not teleporting) into the area with the chests where your character says a line yields more drops per chest. I have tested this 100's of times, i'm pretty sure this is what causes a small or large amount of drops. Regardless, definitely make sure your character says something before popping the chests. This is the biggest factor in the drops (if there actually is one, again i am almost sure there is).

Hell chests can only drop up to 2nd tier items (MAYBE some tier 3 items)

I haven't done much experimenting with the torment lost treasure chests but they seem to drop tier two and three. Not sure how far into tier three but i have seen an archon plate and some other high level items drop.

Basically if you see an item pop from those chests that you want a unique/set version of you can get it with enough mf and runs. And will probably happen sooner than you think.

This is sort of a boring and cheap strategy though  But it can be fun to load up 300mf and >300 gold find then pop the chests a few times every now and then. Sorry for the long text, i have a lot of free time.
