Welcome to the forums!
You can change your character's armor appearance like in Diablo 1 by equipping either light, medium, or heavy armor; if you're talking about going into the code and painting your own custom sprites that's too heady a subject to get into here.

It may be possible to change the properties of heavy armor and change their appearance.

But I do not know in which txt the property of the reservation and through what to open them.

I will explain, I want to wear heavy armor, but look like a medium armor

If someone helps, I will be grateful =)

Well, you can unpack the Diabdat.mpq, find the sprites for your character and replace the light and heawy armor files with mrdium ones. I just changed the character speech files in the archive - no problem

Oh, I opened this file.
inside about 2900 files with the same name, how to find the right one?
Inside .XXX format ... Probably, for me it is difficult = (

Try this one? It seems especially made to handle Blizzard's weird coding.

You'll also probably want to do a few Google searches for tutorials if this is your first time using a decompiler program.

You must find the list file for the archeve. As far as i remember, diablo version of MPQ archive not contains the file list.

Unfortunately, in Diablo 1 there are no lessons or guides on this issue on Russian resources, forums and websites, and I cannot cope with my knowledge of English.
Thank you, who suggested, probably not fate.

So you must find the Diablo1.txt file size~ 191105bytes, and use file-open mpq's with options line in mpqEditor. Then open the Diabdat.mpq and next page will be additional options. Browse the "Additional listfile" and load the file list. As I see, folder plrgfx contains graphics for characters rogue, warrior and sorceror , each contains parts of sprite for character animation , the second letter in folder name seem to be (H)eavy, (M)edium or (L)ight. So you can experiment with this. Or just find the sprite viewer on Diablo1 forums for cl2 graphics format.
You can download the listfiles on Mpq Editor site:

It appears that the type of armor doesn't changes only the visual but the resistance as well. I figured that light armor such as battle cage or dragonslayer can only provide up to 40% physical resistance, no matter how high is ur armor class. Meanwhile, heavy armors can reach up to 75%. I wonder if u change the visual u will also be changing the possible defense.

Firstly i wan't able to access this forum in my region but using VPN which i got with whoer.net promo code did the trick. It changed my location and now i am able to read the steps on this forum to change armor appearance in diablo.
I am 100% confident that all these stupid VPN spams never made one single sale on this old game forum.
