Belzebub source code? Fork possible? (Diablo 1 save system)

Hi,
as I wrote in a previous topic, the "Diablo 2" save system of Belzebub doesn't fit with the way I like Diablo: I prefer the original Diablo 1 system where dungeons/quests/enemies states are also saved.
I really love Belzebub, the work done on it is amazing, but this save system kind of stop me to play it.
According to the forum, some other players would also like to have the possibility to play this amazing mod this way.
But as far as I understood, Belzebub is now view as completed, and devs moved to Tchernobog, so there is no chance to have an update from them, and that totally make sense, dev time is precious and limited!
Being a developer myself, would it be possible to make a fork of the Belzebub code to offer this option? (or eventually a kind of pull request to integrate this feature in the mode itself)
Is the source code of the mod private or publicly accessible?
Thanks
