I may have screwed up the ordering of the quest the first time. Does that mean I won't get the golem reward now?

Yes. Once quest ends (you kill the summoner) you can't get reward anymore on this difficulty.

Fck, i didn't follow the order, so to not activate the quest, but somehow i got it activated and solved.... On both normal and nightmare.
Now I have to restart my 39lvl necro xD
