Very Urgent! Problem between openAL soft and diablo1 HD

Post by willow75 »

Good morning everyone, I have a very big bug with Diablo1 HD mod

When I play this game, some sounds disappeared.

This bug is known because it's bug introduced since 2.40.008 driver for xfi titanium (2.40.008 is the last driver for win7. This problem arrives in all driver for windows 10 2.40.010 et .012) and open al games.

example of forum topic where this problem is described
https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread ... 7fde139267
http://www.oldunreal.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/ ... 1400445026
http://forums.creative.com/showthread.php?t=708255

A workaround is to use openalsoft http://kcat.strangesoft.net/openal.html .

The big problem is that openalsoft doesn't work with diablo1Hd mod. Beacause of that it's impossible to play at diablo1HD.

With oldunreal (modification of unreal1 with openal support), BG EE or icewind dale EE , oepnalsoft works but not with diablo1Hd mod.

Could you solve this problem?

Thanks and excuse me for my bad english.

There would be several possible workarounds, including :
- get back to and older version of the driver (and Windows if you need)
- use another sound card

Change the sound card is risky because it cost money, it's the only game that I own where opealsoft does't work and I don't know if the new soundcard will be perfect or will have the same problem or even others problems.

Get back to and older version of the driver is possible (ony on win7) except the fact that it solves some sound problems with other games. Change sound driver at each time for each game is not a good answer.

You should ask creative about the problem, not us. http://support.creative.com/

Openal soft is independant and not a property of creative.

I don't ask to resolve the bug with xfi because it's a bug from creative.
The only thing is that you can feedback creative about this problem because one developper has more impact than one person. But It's only optional because it's not your job.

i ask you if you can to resolve the problem with openal soft because it's a problem from diablo1Hd mod. All other software using openal works with openal soft except diablo1Hd mod. I don't know why. Maybe the call of OpenAL32.dll differently with diablo1HD.

No. It's a problem from interaction between diablo1HD and openal soft.

Openal soft doesn't work with this game even if you own another sound card (realtek etc).

you can make openal soft work by replacing wrap_oal.dll with soft_oal.dll (Win32 one) form openal soft windows bin realease.
Works both in windows and wine :)
have fun

I have tried but it dones't work with this game. Game said that openal is not avalaible with diablo. Although openal soft works with other game like oldunreal or BG EE.

Tested with windows 7 and windows 10.

It's why I ask to developpers to support openal soft.

Use Virtual Machine for Sound Issues

Post by Arkane »

I've also tried searching the internet for a fix for the sound issue in Windows 7 but havent manage to come across one that works. I tried everything. Eventually, I decided to use a virtual machine and use a Windows XP VM.

Install Oracle Virtual Box (Free)
Create a Windows XP Virtual Machine
Install Windows XP.
Install Open AL Driver
Install .net Framework v3.5
Install VC Redistributable 2010
Install VirtualBox Guest Additions
Enable 3D Hardware Acceleration

Sound seems to be working now. In Windows 7, it used to cut off about 20 seconds after entering a dungeon. Now its working well past that. Havent tested fully though.
