Extrange error when tryign to open the game.

Post by Roxas »

Hello!

First of all, i want to excuse myself for my poor english and so! heh! im from spain so my english is kind of limited, well i found this mod and felt like playing it, looked amazing to me, but then i got a problem, when i try to run the beelzebub.exe i get this error...

Failed to create palette file:\towsdata\town.pal.

Then the game will not even open itself, and im left there with the error and a black windowed screen.
Anyone could aid me to identify this incidence and maybe guide me in how to fix it? thank you very much!

Hi, I had the same problem when I had copied file DIABDAT.mpq into Diablo folder and, at the same time, mounted Diablo image into virtual drive. Removing DIABDAT.mpq from game folder solved this error, at least for me.

@baboun, had problem with diabdat.mpq when first installed Belzebub, Just deleted it & re-copied it.

Installed from unpatched D1 from disc.
Belzebub doesn't need disc (or virtual) with diabdat.mpq .
Vanilla D1 does (unpatched). not sure if patch makes any difference.

Running win7 compatibility XPsp3.

Graphics drivers are version 9 or 10...so maybe 11 or later has probs ...(has with some other "old games".

So basically copy diabdat.mpq, remove disc (or dismount), run XPsp3 (should do it automatically). Should be good to go.

If not, clean install, maybe a registry clean too.
And maybe install in different folder (read somewhere can have probs when installed in standard location...no save files or something like that).
If i want to drink and smoke 'til i can't stand-up what the hell is it to you!.

Well ty for your reply but I figured it out myself :D

My CD was Diablo + Hellfire and its diabdat.mpq was different for some reason , like 150 Mo instead of 500 Mo from the one I had to download.. xD
