Salvage all magic items that you do not want or may use in the future. Keep all crafting ingredients. You will use them eventually and they do not take up much space.

Hi Teriodis! =)

You have to savage higher quality Rare items (and the exceptional version ones) at least to get 1-2 Alchemist's Boxes and to get more Flawless, Perfect gems. You can get the lower materials with lower quality Rare items too.

The rare item is just an example, you can replace them with Uniques, Sets too (I don't know about higher quality Magic = blue items, since I don't pick them up anymore for a long time).

EDIT: Maybe you have more chance to get Alchemist's Boxes with higher quality Staves
