Support for Mini-Map and more hotkeys

Post by Etheziel »

Are there any plans to implement a mini-map mode similar to diablo 2/3? I have always hated the fullscreen map covering up the action on the screen.

Also would love more hotkey support and customization.

Thanks for such an amazing mod, it breathes new life into this game!

Also, are there any plans to compact the user interfact and get rid of the useless grey box in the middle of it? Like this:

Even better, the plans are that the UI shall be customizable by the user (see http://awake.diablo1.eu.org/post2886.html#2886 ).

This is a cool idea, but I don't remember Diablo 2 having a minimap. I thought it displayed a map over the whole screen like Diablo 1?

I really like this change you made. Cutting out the grey box makes the UI leaner and allows more environment to be viewed. I know the grey box will probably get used for multiplayer text, but whats the point? Text could be input into a hidden semi transparent box like in Diablo 2. I don't think such a large portion (or any) of the UI needs to have a text box integrated into the center of it. Also, I like the experience bar at the top of the UI. It seems a little hidden at the bottom. I remember not noticing it until I was level 15 or something, lol.

By default, yes it was like Diablo 1. But there was a setting to change it in the options. Here's a picture of it: http://snag.gy/f5FOd.jpg

Yeah I took the design queue for the experience bar from Diablo 3. I feel like that's an excellent design idea, it's longer, more pronounced, and much easier to see, and serves as the ui's border which is cool. I would even go so far as to change the color it turns to when it fills up. Maybe instead of the white color it could be maybe a gold or blue color. It would definitely make it stand out, as I too didn't even notice the bar was there until I was well into the leveling process. It's kind of hidden in the ui because it has the same color palette which causes it to blend in too much. I had also had an idea of maybe redoing the buttons that are spelled out (skills, char, inv, etc) into icons so they take up less space. You could easily put some nice icons together in photoshop that are easily identifiable, while at the same time staying as close as possible to the same aesthetic as the game.

As far as the grey box being used for multiplayer, I'm not sure what it would be used for that couldn't be used somewhere else much better than bloating the ui unnecessarily with a big grey box that will only be used at certain times. Especially now when we aren't limited by the technical restraints that the developers were when this game was first made. [/quote]

@Etheziel, You're sure that this minimap thing is Diablo2 itself feature and not maphhack's one?

Don't know why my post was deleted, maybe something to do with the forum being off-line temporally, but here it goes again:
Yes, I can confirm there's a minimap option on Diablo 2, and another interesting option D2 has is faded map.

My post was deleted also.

But yes, minimap was a baked in option in Diablo 2 vanilla.
