Open source?

Post by Bazhosh »

Hi!

It makes great fun to play.

Will the source code for this game be public?

I have a question about this Noktis, since you seem to be involved with the PR.

Before Belzebub was even called Chochlik, mod maker Marsky released an untitled Diablo engine. With it he included this readme, since your forums don't allow for attachments, I've copied it to here: http://pastebin.com/EjxxyWdi This was May 1st, 2013.

As you can see, he says that, eventually, the code and resources would be released to the public. I was estatic at this because, as you know first hand, the Diablo 1 modding community was getting rather stale.

Since then, Marek or Marsky has been working hard on his project, it's gone through name changes and I have copies of the project all throughout last year. I even got to help test the Alpha when he had it hosted as a git repo. My question to Noktis, is Belzebub and Chochlik and Marsky's project all one in the same?

I haven't shared anything to do with Chochlik or Marsky/Marek's project because I thought that if I did I would never get to see the source, and in turn the Diablo modding community as a whole would suffer. Now I'm under the impression that the Diablo modding community is suffering regardless. So what's stopping me from sharing these old project files? I'd like to think I'm an honourable person thus far, I have co-operated each step of the way. I'd like something in return, not to me directly, but to the Diablo modding community. Not a new game to play, but a new way of creating Diablo mods. If you don't plan on doing that with Belzebub, what's stopping me from trying my best to do that with Chochlik?

So you're saying "honour" is why I shouldn't?

I hope it wouldn't be Blizzard-style 'soon'... ;P
