Character data not saved
I played for a few hours, and really enjoyed the experience! However, upon exiting the game and returning shortly after, my character was gone! I made a new one to test it out with the same results.
How might I go about fixing this issue? Apologies if this is an obvious thing I am overlooking, but there is not a manual save option as far as I can tell.

Right-click the Belzebub.exe file (the little icon you use to start the game) and select "run as administrator." The game is trying to create a file it doesn't have permission to make.
Or at least hopefully it's as simple as that. Let us know if it doesn't work. This is the first time I'm hearing about this particular problem so early into a new game.
Don't worry about asking silly questions. It keeps us on our toes.
Also I didn't say before, welcome to the forums!

Oh good. I love it when the solution is simple.
Another thing to note this game does sometimes glitch in unexpected ways since it's based on million-year-old software, so from time to time you'll want to think about going into the Belzebub> Data folder and making a copy of your save files from time to time. Just copy/paste a copy of it anywhere not in the game folder (I use a big folder called 'porn!' so people think twice about looking in it). It'll be static so you'll want to make a new copy every once in a while.
Oh, and if you want to bind a hotkey to a spell you open the spell overlay (where their icons are all on screen), hover the mouse over the spell and press the appropriate F# key. That one took me forever to learn.

I will backup my character saves once in a while, thank you. That is a pretty funny way to keep people out of your stuff, and an even better way to disappoint those nosey folks. lol
Hot keying skills and spells seems just the same as it was in the original release of Diablo. Thanks for the reminder, friendo!

Oh no!
It does indeed sound like it's time to contact GoG about your problem. My guess... and this is only a guess unfortunately... is that GoG's updates and Belz's updates are warring with each other for where to send the save data.
Sorry you had to be the guinea pig here, OfficerSchwartz, but GoG's a stand-up company and I have little doubt we'll get this solved with their help. They may even be able to restore your characters, if my hunch is correct all the relevant save states are crammed in a folder somewhere.
This looks like the appropriate thread for your problem:
