multiplayer levelling problems

me and my brother started playing this mod a few days ago (which is awesome by the way) and we levelled up to about level 7 on our first play then quit. all was fine at this point.

then we played again about an hour later and levelled up to about level 15 (still fine) , we then left again and upon our next game my brother had returned to level 7 but i was level 15 still.

i had created the game and he had quit before me everytime. this has happened twice now.

it would be brilliant if anyone could tell me how to fix this as all our work is undone after we quit the game.
