From my point of view, you only need as much STR to be able to equip your shit. Yes, increasing Strength also scales up your innate abilities and adds a bit of damage, but on the other hand, DEX gives a lot more stats. While adding damage as well, it also increases Critical Strike Chance, Accuracy and Armour Class. With that being said, overall maxing your STR only to scale your abilities is usually just not worth it for the cost of all that stuff, as the scaling is not really impressive and the stats provided by DEX are a lot nicer to have. So I'd recommend investing in DEX as much as it possible, while also having a bit of STR to meet equipment requirements and sometimes VIT to have some extra health.
Sorry, for maybe stupid question: how to attack monsters in the most effective way?
I just started to play Warrior after Sorc and Rogue. And it feels like real hell. The game mechanics works very strange for melee characters.
In all Diablo-like games you can just move cursor over the monster to highlight it, so after that you can hold the left mouse button to target-lock the monster and to hit it till it's death.
Here in this Mod target-lock doesn't work, and you have to keep the mouse over the monster on every each hit. And in case if monster moves, you may misclick, and that means that your character starts walking but not attacking. Real problem is when surrounded by many monsters: there is a big mass of fast moving targets and misclick might cost you life: your warrior might collect dozens of hits while just stupidly walking around the monsters.
And YES, I know about keeping the"Shift" button pressed during attacking - it is not really helpful because of very short melee attack distance, so very often you might attack air not monsters.
So, basically, I found it to be very frustrating that my attack rate is only 80-90% because of game mechanics. The rest time I am wasting for walking around monsters because of misclicks or swinging the air with shift button.

afaik diablo1 doesnt implement target(name)-lock function (this function is diablo2 or later)
because lower resolution and density than this mod and diablo2.
(i remember Blizz-north started to develop diablo1 as real-time roguelike game *1)
btw,i've tested target-lock is doable or not in diablo1 vanilla using VMWare
however, target-lock was unavailable (requires click per attack)
i guess developer didnt notice your suggestion, i didnt notice either.

So you do not feel any inconveniences playing melee character in this Mod?
Strange, but sometimes I am really getting mad seeing my character not fighting as intended but walking around monsters and collecting hits from them.
Actually, my question was about some tips or tricks which people might be using while playing melee and which I do not know

i feel inconveniences before learning teleport spell.
but after learning and enough mana, i dont feel because i use teleport with manasteal for move and close to enemies.
(means teleport attack combo with holding shift key)
i keep all gears of arch-mage with high mag in stash for learning teleport quickly asap.

Thanks for replying.
I know about teleport attack and how to use it to kill distant enemies. But now I am talking about another aspect of game mechanics when I have to fight with my mouse, but not with monsters. There is no target lock in the Mod and misclicks are too annoying. So far the only solution I found is to click like mad while attacking, so if I click correctly attack will have place, and if not and characters starts to walk then another fast click in the row hopefully will be aimed properly and this will stop him from walking and he will attack instead.
Basically I mean that game experience with Rogue is completely different and easier from many aspects. This is just like day and night.

I put all my points into magic so far ( level 17 ). I killed the skeleton king easily with holybolt, butcher with firewall and currently lighting is hooking me mad xp. This is how I play and im sure when i reach harder difficulties it will be impossible, but I plan on doing it anyway.
IMO dex is really important for the warrior class, chance to hit is a big deal and Critical damage isn't something to overlook. I'm sure dex adds in chance to block too. Really you will only need enough STR for the gear you intend to wear. Vitality is important too bu you can always get that from gear. Really its up to you and how you want to play, just dive in and be more aware of the game. Whats the point of doing tons of damage if you barley hit? Id rather do less damage and never miss.

This won't help with locking on, though if you're spam clicking, or clicking repeatedly in any game, I'd suggest using XMouseButtonControl. It will let you do a lot of handy things related to your mouse, including being able to spam click by holding down a different button, like one of the thumb buttons for example.neversun wrote: So far the only solution I found is to click like mad while attacking....
From what I remember Diablo was originally going to be turn based. In a way it, technically, still is, in the sense that it's still turn based but to make it real time they basically put the turns onto a timer and made the timer run continually regardless of what the player is doing.Miso_Niz wrote: (i remember Blizz-north started to develop diablo1 as real-time roguelike game *1)

David Brevik (of what became Blizzard North when acquired during development) was making it as a turn based game, when it was requested that they make it real time they basically made the turn time so short that it appeared to be real time.
Edit,,, if you search for something called "Diablo game concept by Condor" you should find some documentation about what Diablo might have ended up as if that sounds interesting.
