Elemental Equipment Builds

Post by Ugily »

Has anyone invested time into crafting elemental equipment builds that are success worthy? At which difficulty level are these builds effective?

[ARMOR / HELM / BELT / SHIELD]

Blazing / Volcanic = fire dam and resist/max
Freezing / Glacier = cold dam and resist/max
Sparkling / Charged = lightning dam and resist/max
Brilliant / Radiant = resistances and reduced damage, resist all max

Suggestions for elemental crafting recipes:

* all of the above = add reduce target elemental defenses
Spectral / Arcane = magic damage and resist - reduces target mag defense
Slaying / Brutal = adds to hit, crits, physical damage - reduces physical defense

[RING / AMULET]
Flame = fire dam and resist, resist all, random stats, 2 random mag effect
Ice = cold dam and resist, resist all, random stats, 2 random mag effect
Lightning = ligntning dam and resist, resist all, random stats, 2 random mag effect
Arcane = magic dam and resist, resist all, random stats, 2 random mag effect
Might = to hit, crits, STR, DEX, random stat roll, reduce physical defense, 2 random mag effects
* amulets also can roll mana/life leach on any of these

Just musing to myself and thought I would share my ideas.

Experiment #1: Elemental builds. Level 46 Warrior

Finally found scrolls for all of the available second tier Elemental Crafted armors: Volcanic, Glacial, Radiant, Charged.

Have built a full set of each element with rings, amulet, and rare single hand weapon for maximum resists, mana and life leach, and speed/damage. Weapon is also selected for the target element to go with the armor build. The crafted items may not be the best rolled items, but were acceptable enough to group a compatible set together with my large assortment of rings and amulets.

Test 1: Torment. Got ass kicked immediately with all builds in Cathedral. Torment level gaming requires Ignore Target Defense. No getting around that when bosses are encountered.

Test 2: Hell. All builds played very well into Catacombs so far up to $PLAYER 5. There were some longer battles with specifically resistant enemies, but the challenge made for good strategic play.

Notes:
Equip with Fanatics Ring and Amulet to get resists up to the 85-95% range. All jewelry has at least some %crits. One ring with mana leach, one with life leach. All jewelry has high +stats all, resist all, and usually add mana and hp. Very good crafted and rare jewelry.
All weapons were top tier rares or crafted with mana leach, added resists, crits and enhanced damage and to hit. All rated as fast or very fast. All weapons have maximum elemental damage - +320 fire, +172 cold, etc.
The only element that is not represented is Magic energy.
The Radiant build used a neutral elemental weapon without +elemental damage, but did have +crits and +physical damage.

Test 3: Hell. Combined build with one piece of armor of each element. Varied same weapons of each element on equip. This played a little better than single element equipment.

Next tests:

Test 4: Hell. Combined build with Magic damage weapon. Combined build with Vortex Flail. Possibly also use Dragons Breath shield and Band of Elements ring. Substitute amulets with elemental damage such as Nozakan...

Test 5: Torment. Various elemental builds with ITD weapons.

Test 6: Same builds on Barbarian. Same builds minus shield on Barb using single handed weapons. Single handed weapon will make up for missing element on combined element build.
