Nightmare and Hell Difficulty

I have thoroughly enjoyed this mod over the past few days. I am level 21, and I am getting close to Diablo. I read that to do the higher difficulties in single player I must load a multiplayer character first. I would sincerely like to continue my quest into Nightmare and Hell, so I tried a trainer. Then I put a save file in the directory. Neither of those things worked. Is there anything I can do to boost a multiplayer character? If nothing would work, then I would love for someone to email me or post a character on this site.
