I've seen people mention how crafting works, but not been able to use it. Is it working correctly? Could I be missing an update?

No, because multiplayer is a different project. It won't be introduced as a new patch but as a new exe file. But as Obi said. It's coming soon... ;_;

"When It's Done" is a perfectly legitimate answer. Well, maybe not perfectly, since answer like "in 3 to 6 months probably" is orders of magnitude more legitimate, but still okay. Saying "Update soon" is not, when it can mean anything from "tomorrow" to "next decade" or "heat death of the universe" (as was implied in the later comment by Obishedo). It deceives the reader into forming optimistic but unrealistic expectations, since usually "Soon" does not mean, say, a year from now.
